"Wear it to Win" - This program or contest was developed to promote to kids the importance of wearing their helmets while riding their bicycles. Each year, the Arnprior Community Policing Committee purchases two bicycles and two helmets for the contest. In order for kids to receive a ballot to be entered into the contest, they must be seen by local police officers wearing their bicycle helmet while out riding their bike. This program also helps to promote both our efforts and the officers community involvement by showing the local children that police officers are their friends and that they are approachable. The Arnprior Community Policing Committee along with the assistance of Arnprior Home Hardware fund this project.

"Crayon Crackdown" - This is a program that was designed to discourage drinking and driving. Each fall we have local elementary schools ask their kids to draw pictures depicting drinking and driving. The Arnprior Community Policing Committee then glue's these pictures onto paper bags from the LCBO to remind drivers of this important fact. The paper bags with the hand drawn pictures are handed out during the Christmas season. This program has been so popular that some customers are now requesting these bags. This program is completely funded by local merchants from Arnprior (Rona, Giant Tiger and the LCBO)

"Bullying Programs" - These programs are always in demand that in most cases they are booked months in advance. These programs deal with children from grades 1 to 8 and are presented by our community policing liaison officer. Presentations are funded by the Arnprior Community Policing Committee and member donations.

"Seniors Programs" - The Arnprior Community Policing Committee held in conjunction with local businesses and service groups a seniors fraud program in 2003. Currently the Arnprior Community Policing Committee is working with other service groups to expand and identify different programs that may be valuable to the community. This is done on an as needed / requested basis.

"Vial of Life" - The Arnprior Community Policing Committee in conjunction with the Arnprior Shoppers Drug Mart provides a service called "Vial of Life". This program was developed by VON (www.von.ca) in conjunction with Shoppers Drug Mart. The program was developed to make important medical information available to EMS in the event that a person is unconscious or unable to communicate. Here is a quote direct from the VON website explaining the program:

"The Vial of Life program is designed to make patient information easily accessible in one centralized location of the home - - the refrigerator. Why?? Refrigerators are common to every household and can be easily located in an emergency.

The aim of the Vial of Life program is to help fire fighters and paramedics on the scene of an emergency by cutting down on the amount of time spent searching for basic medical and prescription information. Having this information easily accessible will also save time for emergency room and hospital personnel and facilitate the care process. "

The Arnprior Community Policing Committee helps to promote this program by handing out vials to local seniors groups and at community events. If you would like to obtain any vials for yourself or your loved one's, feel free to stop by the Arnprior Community Policing office in the Arnprior Shopping Centre.

"Food Bank Food Drive" - Since 2003, the Arnprior Community Policing Committee has help to collect food and supplies for the local Arnprior Food Bank during the month of December. Food collection bins are placed throughout Arnprior to help collect food for the drive. This program has been one of our successful programs and we are now running it on an annual basis.

"A.D.H.S Bursaries" - The Arnprior Community Policing Committee provides two bursaries each year to students from Arnprior District High School (A.D.H.S.) that are entering Police Foundation programs at a post-secondary institution. This program is funded by the Arnprior Community Policing Committee.

"Honeywell Safety Day" - The Arnprior Community Policing Committee has been an active member of this successful commitment by local businesses to help inform the public about safety issues. The Arnprior Community Policing Committee provides information to the public on anything from drug awareness to drinking and driving. This interaction with the public has helped the Arnprior Community Policing Committee in the development of current and future programs.

"School Drop-In Program" - This program was created in conjunction with local area schools and has been active for more than 10 years. This program assigns one officer to one school where the officer visits their school on a regular basis unannounced. This interaction helps to develop a relationship of trust and respect to not only the local police officers but with the police as a whole. This is one of our most requested programs and has been instrumental in the development of current and future programs such as bullying. The value of this program has been identified and now is part of the local Arnprior OPP business plan.

This event was seen as a great success by the Arnprior Community Policing Committee and we are committed to the continued success of the Canada Day celebrations.
